EXTENDED SESSION TIMES

From Monday, November 23 all lap swimming, rehabilitation and aqua play sessions at the Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre will increase to 90mins duration (75mins activity with a 15min changeover).

From this date, you will no longer select your lane speed (e.g. Lap Swimming – Medium Lane) – instead you will select ‘Swimming – General Admission’ and will be able to select your lane upon arrival as per our pre-Covid conditions. Lanes will be allocated to all swim speeds and aqua play as demand requires.

You will still be required to select the pool you wish to swim in. Patrons are not permitted to move between pools.

Bookings are still essential and capacity limits for each session have increased as permitted by the Victorian Government.

For all information regarding swimming at the Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre, please read the information listed below.

The safety of our community is vital, so please expect to see strict hygiene and social distancing measures when you arrive at the facility to keep us all safe and ensure we comply with Government restrictions. These changes will include:

  • Bookings must be made online or over the phone prior to attending – please click on the BOOK NOW button above.
  • Capacity limits will apply to all pools in line with Government restrictions.
  • Bookings will be for 75 minutes of swimming time to allow for a 15-minute changeover and sanitisation period between each session.
  • Booking slots will be released online two days in advance.
  • We ask that everyone arrives showered, ready to swim and bring your own water bottle.

As there are still restrictions on facility usage under the current Government requirements, all existing member accounts will remain on suspension and membership fees will not be charged. We kindly ask that everyone continues to use the facility on a pay per use basis until further notice.

For details on modifying your booking, please see our Support Guide.

  • How can I attend lap swimming?

If you would like to come to the centre for a lap swim, you first need to book online on the lap swimming page on our website.

  • How can I book a lane for my lap swim?
Visit the lap swimming page on our website prior to attending the centre and follow the prompts to book.  Bookings will open 48 hours prior and close one hour prior to each lap swim session. You can change your booking up to two hours prior to your start time. Payment is required in advance.
  • How can I cancel my booking?

If you are no longer able to attend your booked session, we ask that you please cancel your booking via the ‘manage booking’ tab on the booking form. This will allow another swimmer to book into that time slot and may assist us in catering to the demand for lap swimming.

We require a minimum two hours’ notice for cancellations, in which case you will be able to book another time utilising the credit from your cancelled swim. If you would prefer your payment to be refunded, please forward a copy of your cancellation confirmation email to northcote@ymca.org.au. Once processed by our staff team, you will receive the refund within 2-5 business days.

If cancelling with less than two hours’ notice, you will forfeit your paid fee. We still appreciate being notified that you will not be attending so that we can offer this spot to another potential swimmer. Please contact us on 9486 7200.

  • When I book online, does my data stay in Australia?
Yes. Your personal data captured by the online booking system Nabooki, is saved on a server situated in Australia.
  • Are other areas of the facility open besides the lap pool?

Yes. Please check the ‘centre updates’ page on this website for the latest information.

  • How long do I have to swim?

Lap swimming sessions run for 75mins of swimming time, with a 15min changeover period for patrons to exit the facility and cleaning to occur. You must depart the centre prior to next session commencing. Please follow Lifeguard instructions who will advise you when it is time to leave the water, collect your belongings and proceed to the exit.

  • What safety measures are you taking to keep everyone safe?
Your safety and the safety of our staff remains our number one priority. To ensure our facility is COVID-safe and in line with the government’s health advice, we will be applying safety measures across all YMCA-managed facilities. You can find out more about our centre’s COVID-safe measures on the ‘reopening updates’ page.
  • What is the price for lap swimming?

The casual booking rate of $6.95 will apply to all bookings until further notice.

A concession price of $5.60 per booking is also available for qualified customers.

  • Why do existing members need to pay for lap swimming?
All existing member accounts are currently on suspension and no direct debit payments are being made. As such membership fees are not being charged, we ask that during this period, everyone uses the facility on a per use (casual) basis.
  • Do I need to bring my multi-visit or membership card?
No, simply provide your name and booking confirmation at the front desk and we’ll do the rest.
  • How do I get into the venue?

Make your way to the main entry. You may be required to wait at the doors prior to your session start time. Please use the hand sanitiser provided on entry. Follow the floor markings and line up at the front desk, keeping 1.5 metres away from others.

  • Can I use the changing rooms?

Yes, change room facilities are available however we encourage everyone to arrive prepared to swim to maximise their available time in the water. Patrons are still required to exit the facility within their 90min session time so please plan accordingly.

  • Why can’t I use the changing rooms?
The centre is taking direction from state government. We are provided with information relating to the easing of restrictions on specific activities, including public swimming pools. This means no use of changing rooms (unless it is necessary to use the toilet) is the restriction in place during this phase.
  • If I’m temperature checked and my temperature is 38 (or more) and I’m asked to leave will I get a refund?
Yes, we will provide you with a refund.
  • What happens if I refuse a temperature check?
Having your temperature checked is a condition of entry and we will have to ask you to leave the facility.
  • Why can’t I stay the full 1.5 hours swimming?

This is because we need a 15 minute buffer period to ensure the facility is COVID Safe. This time allows for the cleaning of toilets, pool hand rails and end of pool lanes. This buffer will also ensure there is no cross over of customers within the pool area.

  • How do I leave the venue?
Staff will provide direction and there will be signage to lead the way.
